Chester

We are a Christian Community with a long history in the Chester/Richmond community. We proclaim Jesus Christ and promote communities of joy, hope, love, and peace.

In the early 1960’s three members of the church gathered to begin meeting together on a regular basis at the Stout home on Shop Street in Chester. The Stouts left the area and the group was joined by Charles and Kathleen Houck. With the Stout home no longer available for meetings, the group rented space in the Chester Fire Department. While that location provided ample opportunity to pray for those in need, the environment had some obvious shortcomings. Other meeting sites in the church’s 40 year presence in this area have included the Richmond Garden Center, Virginia Commonwealth University, the Chester YMCA, and rented space on Harrowgate Road. The congregation purchased a house on Lee Street in Chester in 1988. In 1994 the congregation purchased the lovely church where we are currently located.

Today, our congregation is a multi-generational group with an active membership of about 45 people. We offer worship services, church school, scripture studies, youth programs, and fellowship opportunities for all ages. All of these activities are supported by a strong individual and congregational prayer life.

As a congregation, we look forward to being an active part of the community.
